Starting a music share thread for the avid musicians/music fans in the guild. I love to share my musical interests and talk about them, and hear what other people are listening to and why they like their music; so share some up. I want to start new threads with new questions for each one. Let's begin.

Q) What have you been listening to most lately, and what do you like most about that group/artist?

GO.

A) Necrophagist!

They are fast, technical and probably robots. They have a very particulate sound. Each instrument has its own niche in the music and can be picked out and followed through each song, unlike a lot of other extreme metal bands. They are true musicians. The guitar parts intertwine amazingly and their work on Epitaph is flawles. They are true perfectionists.

This bass player deserves an award for his explosive, elaborate fingertapped fills. His tone and speed (no pick!) are incredible. He adds a unique level of texture to the band's sound, and matches the guitar players in speed and technicality. Few bass player manage that, especially not in extreme metal. Much of their compositional influence is taken largely from classical music, while their stylistic influences are more rooted in the extreme metal areas (obviously.) They do an excellent job of tossing in some nice thrash-style power chords/ and, ironically, I love listening to this band for nearly all the same reasons I love listening to Chopin. Their signature changes and erratic yet cohesive instrumentals are enough to keep anyone open minded enough to get past (or enjoy) the vocals entertained.

Their new drummer playing some material. Songs sans vocals. A 110% amazing watch / listen.

Here's Diminished to B off of Epitath. Listen to the drummer manage to sneak in those symbals to synch that tightly with the guitar. Also showcases their thrash roots and the bass really well. Sound quality could be better, but welcome to YouTube.

Your turn.

Next week's question: Your favorite solo artist.
